Project management - playing like a beautiful orchestra
Project management – once a tangled web of confusion, now a captivating performance where every team member's voice resonates. Like a vibrant orchestra, each section plays its part, weaving together a beautiful symphony. The design team, like a string quartet, paints emotions with their brushstrokes, color, and form. The engineers, like woodwinds, provide the melody's backbone with precision. Legal sets the rhythm, the steady drumbeat grounding the entire piece.
As part of my hashtag#transformation2024 I am skill building and I am currently half way through the Google Project Manager Certificate. Google does an effortless job of guiding students through the courses. Concept after concept, very well laid out and with passion and precision, the courses are exceptionally clear in their content. As I am going through the classes taking my notes and I realized something.
In some of my very early projects the music often faltered. Questions emerged, discussions ensued, then silence. Days later, the issue remained unresolved, tickets piled up, and the burndown chart mocked our progress.
What went wrong?
I reflected back to the first project I was on and the aha moment arrived: communication is the key. Keeping those "preverbial doors" open early in a project fosters trust and collaboration. Just like in life, open communication empowers team members to speak up, resolve issues quickly, and keep the music flowing.
Project management isn't a chaotic orchestra when everyone is in sync. With passion, precision, and a commitment to open communication, project managers can empower their teams to create harmonious results.
